1.
|
Durability: |
Sugar
Gliders play especially hard with any toys that are in
their cage. As such most cat, dog or bird toys will not
last especially long in a Sugar Glider cage. Therefore,
if purchasing toys meant for other animals, be aware
that they will need to be
replaced often. |
|
|
|
|
|
2.
|
Toxicity: |
Sugar
Gliders are especially susceptible to toxicity
poisoning. While most toys designed for other pets are
fine for them, be sure to wash all toys thoroughly
before letting your Glider's play with them. Small
levels of toxins which don't affect larger animals can
kill Gliders. |
|
|
|
|
|
3.
|
Odor Resistance: |
Probably
the SINGLE most important consideration when purchasing
toys for your Sugar Gliders. Sugar Gliders routinely
pee as they jump around their cages, and any toy made of
rope, wood, or any other absorbent material will begin
to exude a strong smell after only a few weeks. Toys
made of plastic and/or non-corrosive metal are therefore
preferred. When purchasing rope or wooden toys, look
for value "packages" because they will need to be
replaced every few months. |
|
|
|
|
|
4.
|
Noise: |
Sugar
Gliders will actively play with almost any toy placed in
their cage, so if you want a quiet environment, make
sure to remove any bells or other noise-generating
components before placing them in the cage. |

5. |
Glider-Safe™ Certification: |
Many
products currently being marketed for Sugar Gliders are
actually products designed for other pets which have
been "re-labeled" for Sugar Gliders without objective
testing. Products which have received Glider-Safe™
certification have undergone extensive testing by animal
care professionals (including Veterinarians) - and have
been specifically approved for use by Sugar Gliders. |

Review: |
Single toy. Toy can be changed to perform
different functions. Somewhat expensive for a
wooden toy that will need to be replaced every
few months due to odor considerations. |
Package of 4 toys. Good value even when compared
to discount pet stores and retailers like
WalMart. All toys were tested for toxicity and
overall safety specifically for Sugar Gliders. |
Single toy. Somewhat expensive for a rope-based
toy that will need to be replaced every few
months due to odor considerations. |
